A “Different Tack” project is our unique service that offers vulnerable adults who suffer from various mental health difficulties, including drug and alcohol dependency, an opportunity to form a special relationship with our animals.
Amongst many other things, participants benefit from free, weekly sessions down on the farm where they:
- Experience an introduction to the herd
- Participate in mindfulness and meditation exercises
- Gain confidence and get ‘up close’ to a horse
- Enjoy a series of trust-building exercises with their horse
- Learn ‘horse’ language and build a lasting bond
- Meet with mentors and/or qualified recovery workers
- Benefit from free enrolment on the “Fast-Paced Recovery” course
These interventions promote the Five Ways to Wellbeing (be active, connect, take notice, keep learning and give) to help build Recovery Capital (the internal and external resources required to maintain recovery).
We work with a number of specialist partners and consult with professionals when required on a project-led basis. We have recently formed a partnership with the successful Fast-Paced Recovery Programme Read more about them here: https://www.fastpacedcic.com/recovery
